Where browser downloads save
You downloaded a recording and cannot find it. Here is where every platform puts it, and how to change that.
The fastest route on any desktop
Press Ctrl+J on Windows, Linux and Chromebook, or Command+Shift+J in Chrome on a Mac. That opens the browser's download list, where the most recent file is at the top. Right-click any entry and choose Show in folder to jump straight to it.
In Safari, click the download arrow at the top right of the window instead.

iPhone and iPad specifics
iOS does not have a general file system view, so downloads can feel lost. They are in the Files app under On My iPhone, then Downloads. Safari also shows a download arrow in the address bar after a file arrives; tapping it and then the magnifying glass opens the file's location directly.
Audio files do not appear in the Music app. Files is the only place to look.
Android specifics
Files land in the Downloads folder, reachable from the Files app or any file manager. Chrome also keeps its own list in its menu under Downloads, which is usually faster.
Downloaded audio often appears in the Music or media library too, since Android indexes the Downloads folder — which can make a recording show up somewhere unexpected.
Changing where downloads go
- Chrome and Edge — Settings, Downloads, then Change. Turning on “Ask where to save each file” gives you a save dialog every time.
- Firefox — Settings, General, Files and Applications, Downloads.
- Safari — Settings, General, File download location.
The ask-every-time option is worth enabling if you record often. Choosing the destination as you save is faster than hunting for files later.
Common reasons a file seems missing
- It saved somewhere unexpected because the location was changed previously. Check the browser's download list, which shows the real path.
- It is sorted by name, not date. Sort by Date Modified and it will be at the top.
- The filename is not what you expected. Recordings here are named with a timestamp, such as
voice-20260115-143022.mp3. - A private window was used. Downloads still save normally, but the download list is cleared when the window closes.
- Managed device policy redirected the download folder, which is common on school and work machines.
One caution for recordings
Nothing recorded on this site is stored anywhere — not on a server, not in browser storage. If a download did not complete, the recording is gone rather than recoverable. Confirm the file exists before closing the tab, particularly for anything important.

Where did my downloaded recording go?
The Downloads folder by default. Press Ctrl+J, or Command+Shift+J on a Mac, to open the browser's download list — right-click the entry and choose Show in folder.
Where are downloads on an iPhone?
The Files app, under On My iPhone, then Downloads. Audio does not appear in the Music app, which is why it seems missing.
How do I change the download folder?

Can I recover a recording I did not download?
