The syncing question
Voice Memos syncs to iCloud by default. Record on your iPhone and the file appears on your Mac — genuinely convenient, and the main reason to use it.

What Voice Memos does better

Use Voice Memos for personal recordings where syncing helps and background recording matters. Use this when you need a specific format, when the recording should not go to iCloud, or when you are not on an Apple device. Turning off iCloud sync for Voice Memos is also an option if you like the app but not the upload.

If iCloud sync is enabled, which it is by default, recordings sync to iCloud. That is how they appear on your other devices. You can disable it in your iCloud settings if you prefer recordings to stay local.
