Voice memo recorder

For the thought you need to capture before it disappears. Record, download, get on with your day — defaulted to MP3 so the file is small enough to email or message straight away.

00:00 Ready Level

Ready. Press Record and allow microphone access when your browser asks.

Built for short takes

A voice memo is a different job from a recording session. You want it fast, you want the file small, and you usually want to send it somewhere immediately. So this page defaults to MP3 at 128 kbps — a two-minute memo comes out under 2 MB, small enough for any email or messaging app without a second thought.

You can record several memos in one sitting. Each take appears in its own row with its own player and download button, so you can capture three separate thoughts and save them as three separate files rather than one long recording you have to cut up later.

How to record a memo

  1. Press Record and allow microphone access.
  2. Say the thing. Keep it to a couple of minutes — memos work better short.
  3. Press Stop. The memo appears below with a player.
  4. Press Download, or press Record again to capture the next one.

Keyboard shortcut: the spacebar starts and stops recording, so you can capture something without reaching for the mouse.

Where memos usually go next

Nothing is kept

This matters for memos specifically. People dictate things into memo apps that they would not put in writing — half-formed ideas, notes about colleagues, personal reminders. Nothing here is uploaded and nothing is retained after you close the tab. The trade-off is that you must download before closing, because there is no draft to come back to.

Questions

How long can a voice memo be?

There is no set limit, though the page is set up for short takes. If you are recording for more than ten minutes at a time, the dictaphone is a better fit — it is built around long-form dictation.

Can I record several memos without reloading?

Yes. Press Record again after stopping and the new take is added as a separate row with its own download button. Each one saves as its own file.

Are my memos saved if I come back later?

No. Nothing is stored on a server or in browser storage, so closing the tab discards everything. Download each memo before you leave the page.

What format do memos save as?

MP3 at 128 kbps by default, which keeps files small and opens everywhere. You can change it to WAV with the Format dropdown if you need uncompressed audio.

Can I send a memo straight to WhatsApp?

Download it first, then attach the file in WhatsApp as a document or audio message. Note that a downloaded MP3 attaches as a file rather than appearing as a native voice note with a waveform — that presentation is exclusive to recordings made inside the app.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, recording and downloading work without a connection, because none of it needs the network. You do need to be online to load the page in the first place.
